In the fitness community, we all need a little cheat meal here and there. Most of the time, the 90/10 or 80/20 rule applies in these circumstances. This means 80 to 90 percent of the time, you follow your diet and meal plan strictly and the 10 to 20 percent is when you allow yourself a cheat meal or two.
Cheat meals and your body!
A cheat meal actually helps your body in more ways than your sanity. The first benefit a deals with hormones. A hormone called Leptin is produced by your body’s fat cells.
This plays a key role in body weight and fat mass. It keeps us from starving and overeating. While you’re eating the, hormone is carried by the bloodstream into the brain, and signals to the hypothalamus we are full.
Another hormonal boost is seen with Ghrelin. It is true intense workouts and low calorie diets will increase Ghrelin in your system and make you more hungry. This is because your appetite increases the hormone.
Studies show people with anorexia nervosa and others who are obese have higher levels of Ghrelin in their systems.
Low levels of Leptin in your system will lead to a calorie deficiency. This means you are not getting the needed or recommended calories and this causes your body’s energy levels to deplete. This cheat meal will keep your calories at the needed number and keep your bodies energy where it needs to be. They say food is fuel which is 100% true!
The best thing to think about is how we all need protein, healthy fat and carbs. You can take your “bad” carbs and make them part of your cheat meal routine.

2. A more high-end cheat meal involves some delicious wine and appetizers. At Corkscrew Wine and Cheese, they offer a wide range of wine varietals to sample and buy. It also features a delicious menu of appetizers and some entrees.
Picture it now: a glass of wine, some cheese (your healthy fats) and maybe a dessert to top it all off.
3. The most important meal of the day is breakfast! The Early Bird offers great early morning and mid-morning breakfast options. You can get a glazed donut, breakfast quesadilla, chicken and donuts and so much more. But, you must try one of their pancakes! Start your day off the right way here.
4. (In our Italian voice) How about some spaghetti and meatballs? The Blackstone Meatball is a restaurant serving up, you guessed it, meatballs. This place may be a little more friendly if you decide to skip the cheat meal today. They offer meatballs, side salads, yummy sides, along with gluten free and vegetarian options.
